Get the Most Out of Halloween This Year

fear happiness mindfulness Oct 31, 2019

In honor of October 31st, let's take a look at our lives through the lens of this ancient holiday known to us now as Halloween.

Halloween is pretty much the bastard child of an old Celtic festival called Samhain. Before that region of the world was colonized by the Roman Empire, the Celts marked the end of summer and the beginning of winter on November 1st, their New Year. Samhain was celebrated on October 31st when it was believed the ghosts of dead would return to earth.

Get Back in Line!

I don't know if there is something very wrong about me or perhaps very right, but I cannot sit like a normal person. The outside table where I write this drives me nuts every morning as it attempts to coerce me into a standard seated position. I CAN'T DO IT, Table, so just BACK OFF! I have a few theories. As Americans (or...

How Much Does Your Past Weigh?

Back in 2016 I was traveling a lot for work. I remember one month when I took something like 2 dozen flights. It was nuts and fun and tiring. Either way, I had a lot of time to sit and to think on those planes. I recall one such trip when I was sitting near the back of the plane on the aisle seat. I felt so much stress and fear and anxiety in me that had built up over the years.

It had increased since coming into recovery because I was becoming more and more aware of reality and was...

Doing the Dishes in Traffic

When my partner and I began living together he inherited full grown dogs, and I inherited a growing garden - something I had always dreamed of. It isn't huge, and we certainly couldn't live off of its contents, but the act of nurturing it has taken its place in my daily routine. I thoroughly enjoy getting to help take care of the garden. It has given time and space to see and experience new things (well, new to me). It is a wonderful daily reminder

(I am pausing mid sentence as I write...
